Sector Background:
The textile industry is one of the most important sources for foreign exchange in Egypt. The industry also accounts for 30% of local employment and represents 30% of Egypt's industrial production and 15% of its non petroleum exports. Egypt has a number of competitive advantages; a long tradition in textile, locally available raw materials, competitive labor and utility costs.
IMC supports the textile industry through carrying the following activities and services to develop them and increase their competitiveness in the international markets.

Total companies registered at IMC are 1335, with total employment of 195 thousand employees
Total investment of these companies is 16 billion EGP with a growth rate of 137 %
Value of exports reached 2.45 billion USD in year 2008 with a growth rate of 18.2 %
The main markets for the sector were Arab countries with a growth rate of 38% in year 2008, EU with 15 % and USA with 0.38 %
Sectoral Projects 2009:
Penetration of new markets through organizing trade missions, match making, show case & in-bound missions.
Assessing the export readiness of home textiles exporting and potential companies (Export Audits) and improving their export capabilities.
Organize workshops in product development and design and export requirements to niche markets
Promoting the vertical integration of the industry sub-sectors through developing an improved model to enhance the value supply chain
Upgrading the technical capabilities of industrial clusters such as:
• Weaving cluster, and ready made garments cluster to improve the productivity and competitiveness of the companies to international standards
• Dye-house upgrading cluster to deploy international best practice in energy efficiency and waste management
Implementing the recommended studies as per the Textile Development Strategy 2020
