Sector Background:

  • Egypt is among the top three Jewellery producers in the Middle East.

  • There are more than 6,000 workshops feeding 35,000 retailer in the field. At least 150-200 tons of gold (20 billion EGP) are produced annually, mainly directed towards domestic consumption
  • The unique Egyptian cultural heritage, constitute high aspirations for the economic impact of high value Jewellery industry in Egypt. However, studies have shown deterioration in the sector’s performance,especially gold. Over the past 15 years, gold exports have declined from 50 to 3 tons (only 1.3% of  GDP). Egypt has shifted from an exporter to an importer of gold for some countries
Sector Objectives:

To be the regional Jewellery manufacturing hub, providing design, quality and value, allowing Egypt to be amongst the top 10 exporters of Jewellery and focus on entering South Africa, Eastern Europe and the EU markets. In addition to Developing and Re-Structuring (Tax, Customs,Hallmarking, fabricators, clusters, financial sector, exports, Associations)

  • Establishing a Jewellery School to educate students on all the techniques of production and            focusing on Design making

  • Developing Jewellery Technology Centre

  • Assisting Jewellery local industry

  • Develop an up-to-date Strategy for export and benefit from global experience
