Sector Background:

Engineering sector industries comprise about 21% of industrial establishments in Egypt. The engineering sector is very wide as it includes 9 different sub-sectors: Automotive, Home Appliances, Feeding Industries, Machineries and Tools, Medical Devices, Electronics, Cables and Lighting, Metal Furniture, Households and Metal Forming.

2008 Data:

  • Total number of Engineering Companies registered      in IMC has reached 1,300 company, employing more than 100 thousand workers

  • Total Exports value in 2008 has reached 12.5 billion EGP, with an increase of 15.4%

  • Total Investment of registered companies has reached approximately 18 billion EGP, with anincrease of 15% 

In 2008, IMC has executed several Sectoral Projects that had directly affected the main Indicators; Exports, Investment increase, and new job creation:

  • Technically assisted 60 Companies to increase their       Exports and Sales by 20%

  • Eliminating waste and cost reduction by 10%

  • Preventive Maintenance through effective programmes

  • Design and Maintain of forms and moulds

  • Design Development through effective programmes

  • Financial and Inventory Control Systems

•    Sectoral Study for the development of Electronics sub-sector

Main Services to Engineering Companies 2009:


Being one of the largest sectors of the Egyptian Industry, the Engineering sector was most affected with the current Global Financial Crisis. Thus, as part
of its contribution to support the sector face the crisis consequences, IMC shall increase its subsidy to the sector, through several services:
  • Automated Production Operations and the development of Electrical Production Lines by  means of Automatic Control
  • Lean Manufacturing / Production to reduce cost thus result in an Increase of Productivity and  Efficiency of Operations
  • Energy Saving and Utilization of Power and Resource Consumption
  • In-House Expert Programme to utilize technology transfer
  • Implementing Quality Management Systems, and granting Quality International Certification
