NATIONAL SUPPLIERS DEVELOPMENT PROGRAMME

Programme Outline:
National Suppliers Development Programme is a mechanism to upgrade and modernize local suppliers to major Multi National Companies (MNCs) operating cross-sectoral in Egypt, such as: General Motors Egypt, Mercedes, Procter and Gamble, Cadbury; Unilever, Kraft, Schneider and others.The Programme aims to increase the competitiveness of local suppliers to be listed in the international supply chain and to be accredited supplier to international and multinational companies, thus, increasing exports and furthering economic development.

NSDP services are provided through consultancy, training and technology transfer, to achieve the international standards by implementing a deployment plan that starts with Gap Analysis, Gap Closure and ends with Impact Assessment phases.

Programme Background:
NSDP started with a pilot project to comprehensively upgrade 200 local suppliers representing 30 major companies (Mother Companies) that were carefully selected to represent the leading industrial sectors in Egypt.

The Programme focuses on leveraging companies capabilities to meet the international standards, which by its turn will increase their competitiveness in the global market.

Achievements:

  • Gap Analysis and Gap Closure projects for 220 suppliers were concluded

  • Twelve suppliers operating in the automotive feeding industries have been accredited as international suppliers for General Motors globally and have received requests for quotations to export to Brazil and Thailand

  • Five suppliers have been listed as international suppliers for Fiat and Volkswagen

  • Three suppliers operating in the white goods feeding industries were listed as international suppliers for Miraco-Carrier and have exported to Spain and Saudi Arabia

  • Five suppliers have been listed as international suppliers for Unilever and have exported production supplies to Unilever factories in Turkey, Morocco and Saudi Arabia

  • The final audit for Mercedes suppliers revealed Increased Productivity by 35% and waste elimination by 45%


  • Olympic Group suppliers succeeded to increase their productivity by 25% and cost has been decreased by 40%


  • 50 local suppliers of Carrefour Egypt have increased their efficiency in the field of food health and safety standards


Work Plan For 2009:

  • Apply NSDP methodology to different sectors with the aim of determining the commodities and materials currently imported in order to replace it with locally produced components.

  • An Ideal programme to increase the productivity of the suppliers in the textile and ready made garments industry to compete with Indian companies

  • Recommending and qualifying local suppliers for Macro international

  • Provide real estate developers with high quality and cost competitive local suppliers, sectors of direct intervention includes building materials, engineering, chemicals and furniture sectors

  • Establishing a business unit to be responsible for providing a suitable atmosphere to facilitate the matchmaking between local suppliers and international companies and vice-versa
